Help an ex mobile DJ get back in business

I spent over a dozen years from the mid-80's to the late as a mobile disc jockey. Mostly did weddings, and was pretty good at it. Got older, equipment got heavier, day job got busier, and I packed it in.

Well unemployment hits, and I have free time and discover blip.fm. With the help of all of you I rediscover a passion for music, and the DJ biz. Now I want to get back into it. Technology has made lugging equipment a thing of the past. Now I just need to get up to speed musically.

This is where all you blip folks come in. Let me know a few songs from say the past dozen years or so that you would expect a DJ to have, especially the wedding type stuff. Not asking for all the unique stuff we play on blip, but the mass appeal stuff. A lot of the weddings I have been to have shown things have not changed a ton. But I know there are some hits and popular dances,that I have missed while indulging my own musical preferences, not worrying about appealing to the masses.

Also I might be doing some bar gigs. Not house, techno, or any dace clubs, but your neighborhood type joints.

So any input from you musical experts would be appreciated. Again I am not necessarily asking for what you like, but what is going to keep a dance floor hopping.

I am still a little unsure of what songs from the last decade or so work at a mixed age crowd like weddings. I'm comfortable with the old standbys, and hope fluffyboots is right about the 80's, cause that is my strength.

Well I guess I will find out in a little less than two weeks. First wedding in a decade on the 19th. Wish me luck.

My kid, [e-mail] is a local dj, Sarasota, FL, getting a bit of a name for himself, finally.Sells cars, now, daytimes, but dj's nite..does birthdays, bike rallies, sports things at the beach, plus a handful of nightclubs. Says he's given up the jiggle joints. He's a music mixer, plays house music , can handle the rowdies, out til 2am, and the business executives (club closes midnite). He doesn't blip, tweet..tho he's on there. Is on fb, mypace. Check him out, ask for music you're looking for.Tell him his mom said 'hi'..
Told me, just today, a DJ in some club in Miami(across state) called him, wants to book him 1 nite a month??? He's a cool cat, 14yrs dj'ing
